The Fire Service Week (FSW) is observed nation-wide under the guidance of the Fire Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India during April 14 - 20. This is in remembrance of the lives lost in the devastating fire that erupted and the explosions that followed on 14th April, 1944 at the Victoria Dock in the Bombay Port and also to prevent fire in all industries.
The National Safety Council (NSC) has been promoting the FSW Campaign since 1999 with a view to propagate Fire Safety awareness amongst employees, their families and the public.
For the first time in 127 years, the Mumbai Fire Brigade decided to rope in a Bollywood star to be their brand ambassador, and it is none other than Randeep Hooda.
The hunky star shot for a campaign with the men in uniform. There, Randeep discussed fire safety tips and the risks they face on the job. He also said that he was honoured to wear the uniform, but admitted it was too hot in it, keeping in mind the Mumbai heat. The city fire brigade has not only got a drool worthy actor as the face of their brand, but they have also revamped and restored vintage fire trucks including one destroyed during the 1944 bomb blast.Randeep Hooda shot a video at Colaba's defunct Mukesh Mill's wherein he is seen portraying the character of a fireman rescuing a seven year old girl who is stuck amidst flames. The fire brigade plans to use Hooda as their brand ambassador during all the events which would be held during the fire safety week in Mumbai.
During this period there are fire drills at various command centres in the city like Vikrohli, Byculla, Wadala and Mankhurd, rallies and lectures on the fire services which are held.
"The actor very readily agreed towards shooting visuals and video and did it effortlessly. The visuals will be used during the fire safety week during various events which would be held.Motive behind it is to initiate more people to join in the volunteer service which we have started for common citizens wherein people are trained for one day about basic fire fighting and usage of fire equipment like fire extinguishers," said Chief Fire officer P. Rahangdale.
